BEIJING, July 20 (TMTPOST) -- Sales of television from Chinese brands by volume in the first quarter of this year in Russia have doubled in the wake of the exit by Western and South Korean brands, according to Russian publication Izvestia.
In May, e-commerce retailer Ozon recorded a 95 percent increase in the sale of Chinese TVs compared to the same month last year. The most popular models were Xiaomi, BBK, Haier, Fusion, and Harper.
In the first half of the year, more than 10 million cellphones were sold in Russia, down by 23 percent year-on-year. Russian e-commerce platform Yandex Market reported that the share of Chinese-branded electronics doubled year-on-year in the first quarter. Against the backdrop of the departure of some Western suppliers from the Russian market, Russian consumers are paying more attention to lesser-known or new brands, which are often Chinese, Turkish or Russian manufacturers, the report said. According to Alexander Surkov, head of the analytical center of the Russian GS Group, Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Honor and Zenith in Russia will soon take the place of Russian cellphone market leaders Apple and Samsung.
The growth in popularity of Chinese TVs was also noted in Wildberries.
In addition, Mobile Research Group analyst Elidar Murtazin said Chinese TV brands were the best choice due to their inventory and price.
Some Russian experts believed that in the absence of other suppliers, retail chains and large distributors will sign long-term contracts with Chinese companies, which will further strengthen China"s position in the Russian market. In the near future, Chinese brands will acquire 90% of the Russian market.
