July 25, Beijing (TMTPost) – A number of Chinese tech companies in Shenzhen, including BYD, Huawei and Mindray, have entered closed-loop operations as the city has been hit by a new wave of Covid-19 infections.
Statistics from Shenzhen’s Health Commission show that 21 new Covid-19 infections were detected on July 24.
The Industry and Information Technology Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality has informed a number of local companies in the city, including Huawei, BYD and Foxconn, to enter closed-loop operations for seven days on July 24. The bureau asked local factories to reduce unnecessary entries and exits of personnel and strictly limit visitors.
Foxconn stated that its factories in Shenzhen are operating normally while complying with the pandemic control and prevention guidelines from the municipality to ensure safety and production. A worker at Foxconn said that employees of the factories would only commute between their workplace and accommodation under closed-loop management. People would need a 24-hour negative Covid-19 test result in order to leave or enter the factory compound, the insider said.
Chinese automaker BYD told Yicai that the company is enhancing pandemic control and prevention measures in accordance with the local guidelines. BYD said that the new wave of coronavirus does not have a significant impact on the company’s production in Shenzhen.
This is not the first time for BYD’s plant in Shenzhen to enter closed-loop operations. The company’s plant in Shenzhen went under closed-looped management between March 14 and 20 this year.
Headquartered in Shenzhen, BYD also has several major plants in Shenzhen, including those in Shenzhen Pingshan, Shenzhen Baolong and Shenzhen Kuiyong.
Open information shows that BYD’s plants in Shenzhen mainly produce two of its flagship car lines, Han and Tang. BYD’s plants in Shenzhen have a monthly output of between 25,000 and 30,000 units.
