BEIJING, September 2 (TMTPOST) – Warren Buffett"s Berkshire Hathaway sold 1.176 million BYD shares again on Friday, with an average reduction price of HK$262.7243 ($33.47) per share, cashing in over HK$450 million ($57.33 million), documents of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) showed.

This is just one week after the Hong Kong Stock Exchange disclosed Warren Buffett"s reduction of BYD shares last time. Warren Buffett sold 1.33 million shares of BYD last Wednesday, with an average selling price of HK$277.1016 ($35.3), cashing out HK$369 million ($47.01 million), HKEX documents showed on Tuesday.

According to HKEX documents, currently, Buffett holds 207.14 million BYD shares, accounting for 18.87% of BYD"s total Hong Kong share capital. Compared with the 225 million shares held at the beginning, Buffett has reduced his holdings by a total of 17.86 million shares. From last Wednesday to Thursday, Buffett intensively reduced his holdings by 11.579 million shares.

Since Buffett"s selling, BYD"s Hong Kong share price has fallen from the closing price of HK$263 ($33.5) on Tuesday to HK$228.4 ($30) Friday, with a cumulative drop of 13.2% in the past three trading days; while BYD"s A share price has fallen from the closing price of 310.85 yuan ($45.97) on Tuesday to 282 yuan ($41.7) Friday, with a cumulative drop of 9.3% and a total market value of nearly 84 billion yuan ($12.42 billion) evaporated.

Shen Meng, executive director of Xiangsong Capital, pointed out that "this reduction will cause pressure on BYD"s share price in the short term, but it does not mean that Warren Buffett"s judgment of BYD"s fundamentals has changed."

However, there are also views that we should pay attention to the risk of overcapacity and the bubble of new energy vehicles. Peng Zhengfeng, chairman of FreesFund Capital (China) Investment Co., Ltd. said that the development of the new energy vehicle industry should also conform to the law of industrial economic development, which starts from the stage of cultivation or introduction, to the stage of growth, then to the maturity, and ends up with the stage of decline.
